Food is fuel for your adventures, but it is also one of my favorite ways to explore a new place. The Cape Town food scene provided delicious diversity, from food markets offering biltong or flatbreads, to gourmet multi-course, prix fixe meals that had made dining a transformational experience.
Coffee & Breakfast
You really can’t go wrong with Jason Bakery. They have a tempting pasty case and great hot breakfast options – I always order a dish that has mushrooms because they are delish. Chilled vibes and flat whites, no complaints.
Folk Cafe in Kalk Bay is lovely. We enjoyed a lazy morning with friends. Great espresso, delicious breakfast, and they have a play area outside so that you may get to enjoy your coffee peacefully.
Knowing my love of flat whites and pastries, a friend gave me a list of worthy coffee spots to try during my last trip and they did not disappoint. Origin Coffee Roasting was my favorite. Their cafe has a great city vibe with ample seating, tasty pastries, and their flat white was everything I needed. Truth Coffee Roasting is the perfect location if you’re looking to keep your IG interesting. This cafe is decked out in a steampunk theme, from their interior decor to their staff uniforms, they went all out.
Dinner
On every trip to Cape Town I have dined at a Chef Liam Tomlinson restaurant. At Thali, I enjoyed a multi-course Indian inspired meal. Every dish was flavorful and had just the right amount of heat. We were stuffed and I didn’t even have room for dessert, and I always save room for a sweet treat.
During my last trip I finally made it to the Chef’s Warehouse at Beau Constantia, and it exceeded expectations. The food was phenomenal, the restaurant chic and the views
Pot Luck Club
Every person I asked for restaurant recommendations said Pot Luck Club was a must and they did not disappoint. We ordered several different dishes, but honestly it’s dessert that I’ll never forget. My dinner mate ordered the Peanut Butter Bomb, but it was so good I nearly ate it all by myself [and it was so good I didn’t even get a photo]. If I only went back for cocktails and three of those desserts, I’d be happy.
Homespun
Nestled within a boutique hotel, Homespun delivers delectable dishes with impressive presentation. Their specialty cocktails were probably some of the most memorable I’ve ever had.
Fyn
The minute you book your trip to Cape Town, try to snag a reservation at Fyn. My lunch experience at Fyn was otherworldly, each dish offering dramatic presentation and complexity. The Hokkaido milk bun, which was soft as a cloud, was served with a burnt mushroom custard that has me considering making creme brûlée a savory appetizer instead of dessert. Dessert was a roasted pineapple wedge with rice ice cream. Honestly, I could’ve eaten three servings it was so delicious.
GOLD Restaurant
