Portugal
For our ten year wedding anniversary, my husband and I celebrated with an escape to Portugal – without the kids! We were looking for a destination that would offer some low-key beach time, but also opportunities to explore historic, old-world sites.
Portugal has a stunning coastline, historic cities, and rich culture. The country is known for its delicious cuisine, including fresh seafood, cured meats, and pastries, and I’m happy to report it did not disappoint. I never imagined I would enjoy eating sardines, but they were delicious – both the fresh grilled and the famous colorfully canned versions.
Some of the top destinations in Portugal include the Algarve, Lisbon, and Porto, where you can explore fascinating city districts, tour local attractions, and see incredible sights like sea caves, street murals, and colorful florals. Lisbon has plenty of historic sites to visit itself, but there are also many day trips you can take from the city to explore the surrounding area.
Portugal is a country that offers something for everyone, whether you’re into history, cuisine, or simply soaking up the sun. I was immediately charmed – it’s a must-visit destination for anyone looking for an unforgettable European vacation.
